Chicken Farmers of Ontario

The Ontario Layer, Broiler and Turkey business operates within a supply management (quota) system authorized under the Farm Products Marketing Act (as with the dairy industry).

The Act allows producers to set up Provincial Marketing Boards. In Ontario these Boards have been operating for more than 30 years. The purpose of the Boards is to regulate supply and prices and ensure an orderly and efficient marketing system that is advantageous for both producers and consumers.

Chick and Egg

The egg layer, broiler and turkey businesses are generally quite profitable industries in Ontario. Consistent high returns on a per-quota-unit basis, as realized in Ontario, are uncommon in Europe and the United States.
